Larry Nayman
Lawrence Nayman, Building Official

Lawrence Nayman was born and raised in western Pennsylvania. After graduating High School, he moved to south Florida in 1957. He was accepted into the electrical apprenticeship program. After graduation as a journeyman he work his way into a supervisor position on some of the largest projects in the Miami area. He went into business for himself in 1972 as a General Contractor and as an Electrical Contractor. In 1992 he became employed by the City of North Miami as Chief Building and Chief Electrical Inspector.

He has an Associates in Science in Building Construction Technology and Associates in Arts from Miami-Dade Community College and a Bachelors of Science in Management. He has attended many classes in the construction field. He taught night classes in construction for the Dade County School System. He is currently licensed by the State of Florida as Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Electrical and Fire Inspector and Plans Examiner, Building Code Administrator, a State Certified General Contractor and holds a Dade County Electrical Masters. He is a member of the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, International Code Congress (ICC) and Building Official Association of Florida.

The Building Official is responsible to the Town Council through the Planning, Zoning and Building Committee and exercises certain independent authority in carrying out the technical aspects of the position, including, but not limited to, plans examinations, specifications, and technical documents for compliance with appropriate codes and standards; supervises and conducts issuance and subsequent inspections for building, plumbing, mechanical and electrical permits and certificates of occupancy; ordinance compliance review; code enforcement; prepares required reports for FEMA, ADA, CRS, and NPDES; prepares grant applications and administration when appropriate; and is familiar with and enforces current Florida Building Code.
Building Permits
Attention Contractors:

Applications for Building Permits can be submitted Monday - Friday from 8 am - 4 pm.

Please allow 24 hours following the submission of all required paperwork for permit to be completed.  

All information may be faxed to the Building Department for processing. However, originals (where required) must be provided when the permit is picked up. Permits can be picked up in the Building Department Monday - Friday from 8 am - 4 pm.

The Town of Indian Shores requires the following information to issue a permit:
  1. Copy of valid PCCLB registration and Florida State license.
  2. Copy of Certificate of Insurance showing general liability and worker compensation coverage or copy of exemption certificate.  Certificate to show Town of Indian Shores as certificate holder.
  3. Completed permit application (which can be downloaded below), signed by license holder only and notarized.
  4. Copy of signed contract showing valuation of work to be performed.
  5. If valuation of work to be performed exceeds $2,500 ($5,000 for mechanical) a Notice of Commencement must be recorded with the County and a certified copy must be submitted with permit application.
  6. Three copies of drawings and/or plans (signed and sealed, if required) pertinent to work performed, if applicable.
  7. Permit applications are to be signed by the license holder only.  The signature must be notarized.
No permit will be issued if any of the above information is omitted.
