With a background in social work after receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree from Florida State University in 1981, Emily served the State of Florida until joining the Tallahassee Police Department in 1984 in our State Capital. She progressed in her career track from Patrol Officer, to Field Training Officer, FDLE instructor, and Investigator (Child Abuse, special victims, homicides). Later promoted to Sergeant where she administrated a patrol division squad among other duties (FTO sergeant, FTO coordinator, and DARE sergeant). After achieving Lieutenants rank she served at watch commander for the patrol division, K9 administrator, special operations supervisor, traffic/motorcycle daily operations, and special events supervisor. In 1998, she achieved the rank of Captain which in the TPD organization is the Command position for all administrators. She was over the Charlie district patrol operations, later serving as CID commander (AKA Chief of Detectives), and for several years, over the very important Internal Affairs unit as its Commander.
She later served with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office in various roles, including administration of all FDLE record requirements, and Telecommunications trainer to meet the recent Florida standards. She retains her FDLE instructor’s certification, and has trained repeatedly in Emergency Management, Emergency Medical Response, and other community services.
