Most of west central and southwest Florida are under a Marginal Risk (category 1 of 5) of seeing severe thunderstorms through Friday. The primary threat will be damaging wind gusts and large hail (1” in diameter or greater).
The upper-level disturbance will continue to move over the area through the end of the week during afternoon/evening hours bringing the potential for damaging wind gusts and hail (5-14% chance).
Please remember the following when experiencing a severe weather event:
- Seek shelter immediately in a sturdy building.
- Stay inside until the hail stops.
- Stay away from skylights and windows, especially windows that are being struck by hail.
- Account for all family members, building occupants, pets, etc.
- Do not go outside for any reason.
- If you are in a car, do not get out of the car.
- Keep yourself safe from broken glass.
- Assess the damage.
